I went out to see the eclipse. I was very sleepy, but I’m always mad at myself when I skip these things. So fuck it. You never know when it’s going to be your last eclipse.
I watched it from the window initially. At no point did I see the red tint. That’s what I get for watching in the middle of the city on a cloudy night. While outside during totality, it was impossible to see where the moon actually was. Kind of cool. I used the help of a sky application on my phone to see where it was.
Then, the gunfire went off (complete plot twist). It was out east of my area, a long way off. Around 10-15 rapid-fire shots. I debated calling it in but realized I wouldn’t have any valuable information given how far off it was. Right after the gunfire, I heard multiple vehicles speeding around as well. Either the officers or the suspects. But again, I was too far off to even get a good direction of travel for what I was hearing.
That said, my conscience wouldn’t let my brain get over it. So I checked in with someone I know in the business to confirm it was actually called in. It had been. Classic USA though. Keepin’ it classy over here (please read that sentence with a simultaneous eye roll).
So I went back to eclipse watching. Once totality ended, I finally saw a slight hint of red. Unfortunately, I was dealing with some wispy cloud cover. It didn’t make for very good viewing.
Anyways, that was all the excitement. I’m going to go to bed now. Enjoy my very amateur phone photography to commemorate the day.
